Duo cleans up with contract for Keep Britain Tidy

Duo UK has bagged a new contract for environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. Duo will manufacture the distinctive green sacks used for the charity's 'Big Tidy Up' campaign from 100% recycled polythene that has been collected, reprocessed and manufactured all in the UK.

Keep Britain Tidy's sacks are manufactured from recycled polythene reprocessed in Duo's closed loop recycling system. Closed loop recycling involves collecting post consumer waste and waste polythene produced during the manufacturing process, Duo's managing director, David Brimelow, explained: "Once we've collected the waste material we recycle it into pellets which are then used to manufacture new packaging products. The real beauty is there is virtually no limit to the number of times this process can be repeated, meaning closed loop recycling is a sustainable and environmentally-friendly solution. For many of our clients, including Keep Britain Tidy being environmentally friendly is an essential part of their ethos, so this solution really appeals to them."

The Big Tidy Up is England's biggest ever litter pick and Keep Britain Tidy wants everyone, from community group and, companies to schools and neighbours, to get on the streets, cleaning up a corner of their community. Since 2008, The Big Tidy Up has mobilised more than half a million people to collect almost 120,000 bags of rubbish.

Keep Britain Tidy's chief executive, Phil Barton said: "The Big Tidy Up is a hugely important campaign. Our aim is to get everybody out on the streets, cleaning up their corner of a community. Providing 100% recycled rubbish bags for everyone who is ready and willing to get involved is vital. It was really important to us that the sacks are as environmentally-friendly as possible and the fact Duo is a local supplier with a factory within a 25 mile radius of our HQ reduces our carbon footprint and transport costs even further."
