Duo UK turns up the heat at BBC Radio 5 Live’s Energy Day

Duo UK has been flying the flag for manufacturing by taking part in BBC Radio 5 Live's energy day (5th September 13), which aims to highlight the energy crises facing the UK.

Duo's operations director, Dale Brimelow, was a specially invited guest on Nicky Campbell's breakfast show which also featured the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey MP, along with representatives from energy companies, renewable technologies, local government and environmental groups.

Dale took the opportunity to outline the problems faced by energy intensive businesses such as Duo to Mr Davey. Mr Brimelow explained that with energy bills of £35,000 a month it was vital that green energy sources were commercially viable in order to maintain a competitive edge in an international marketplace.

The Secretary of State acknowledged the importance of Dale's point before hinting that the Government is looking at schemes similar to those in Germany and Italy where governments actively support companies which use large quantities of energy in order to stop production going abroad to countries with less stringent energy controls. "We've got to go green while staying competitive", said Mr Davey.

Dale commented: "It was great to raise what is a really pressing concern for many manufacturers directly with a member of the Government. Like many British businesses we take our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously, introducing measures to reduce waste, cut energy use and increase recycling, but it's vital we maintain our competitive edge. Energy usage is set to be a mainstay of the political agenda for successive government's so it's vital that manufacturing's voice is heard loud and clear."
