The Budget 2013: Duo's Verdict (1)

Overall Duo were pleased with the Budget announcement. Financial Director Paul Teasdale summarised Osborne's budget stating,  'He did some good. It would have been nice if he'd done some more good...a stronger story on growth would have been excellent.'

Duo's Managing Director, David Brimelow said on the announcement, "Companies essentially needed two things today - stability and hope for growth. Like many businesses, we are essentially looking for this and a budget that rewards companies that invests and provides incentives for long-term job creation.

The new employment allowance to cut national insurance bills by £2,000 is a step in the right direction. Although this may not have a huge impact on Duo's wage bill, we hope this will help increase employment and enable smaller businesses to achieve growth faster.

They could have done more to reform Capital Gains Tax. However, businesses should take some of the responsibility. Every buyer in every UK company should think if they can commercially buy from the UK and "Buy British" where possible. UK businesses working together and buying from each other will help increase demand for UK manufactured products which will in turn boost the economy and job opportunities."

Duo UK, proudly hosted BBC Radio 5 live's Tony Livesey chat show last night as they discussed and debated the 2013 Budget with politicians and expert commentators from across the North West. Listen to the full show online at BBC 5 Live
