Duo UK recognised as one of North West's Green Champions

The North-West is home to many innovative businesses leading the way when it comes to sustainability and decarbonisation. NW Insider invited Duo’s Brand Director Zoe Brimelow to share how Duo has pioneered sustainable solutions and products.

Zoe explained, “we started by evaluating our processes end-to-end to identify opportunities to make tangible changes based on circular principles.  

Duo’s customers are increasingly stipulating recycled or renewable content requirements as part of their own sustainability policies and government regulations applicable to their industry. We use a product lifecycle design process to evaluate a client’s existing packaging products and redesign, for example using thinner, stronger materials which utilise more recycled content, as well as enhancing on-pack messaging to inform and educate their customers on how to re-use and then recycle products once the packaging is at the end of its life. By engaging our clients at the design stage, this is where there is the greatest opportunity to implement circular economy solutions and strategies.” 

At Duo, the commitment to sourcing renewable and recycled raw materials and developing recyclable products has helped the business prepare for regulatory and legislative instruments aimed at reducing plastic waste, such as the UK plastic tax. In 2018, recycled material accounted for 25 per cent of material use in Duo’s Manchester Factory and so far in 2022, it is at 57 per cent.
