In our commitment to expanding our circular approach to plastic, we proudly partnered with Plastix to launch a new product for the food and beverage industry, Oceanix Collation Shrink Film.
But how is the recycled content evidenced?
Plastix has received the EUCertPlas Certification which is a new standard in traceability and transparency for recycled materials. The EUCertPlas certification follows a stringent criterion, ensuring the recycled materials are traceable from their origin though to the final product. This certification involves rigorous audits and assessments, confirming the recycling process. Plastix document and provide detailed evidence of the entire recycling chain, from collection and transportation of waste to its processing and transformation into new products. Plastix maintains comprehensive records and undergoes regular third-party audits to verify compliance with EUcertPlas standards, guaranteeing transparency and accountability at every stage of the process.
Stage 1 The fishing gear and ropes undergo an intense process of waste fractioning and homogenisation to reduce the material down to tiny, uniformed fibres.
Stage 2 Plastix employs metal detection and cutting technology to separate any metals from the waste material, so that the feedstock used meets the environmental and quality standards required.
Stage 3 The thermoplastic is washed, separated and dried before it is put through a plastic extrusion process. Plastix reviews and analyses its waste fibres at a chemical level and thoroughly monitors all recycling steps in accordance with ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management systems, and ISO 14001, the international equivalent for environmental management systems.
Oceanix material is made from 98% maritime waste and the level of recycled content is confirmed by an LCA.
How is recycled content evidenced in packaging products containing Oceanix?
Duo can evidence through independent audit the internal chain of custody and traceability of recycled content through the production process for each customer order. This is possible due to an international certification in environmental sustainability policies: ISO 14021:2016, which allows issuing self-declared environmental product claims. Find out more about this here.
By ensuring traceability throughout the closed loop recycling process and the production process provides evidence to support environmental claims and avoid any form of greenwashing.
